Artist Stories

LE:SA is not only a directory of artists. It is a growing record of practices, works, experiences and exchanges — giving each artist a place to be seen in context, while allowing the collection to grow with them.

THE STORY BEHIND THE NETWORK

From Confluence to an Artist Community

LE:SA grows from the wider Cultural Exchanges vision: to bring art, culture, learning and community into meaningful exchange. Its artists come from different places and practices, but share a space in which the work can be documented, encountered and connected to wider cultural activity.

The spirit of Confluence 2026, organised in collaboration with Smile Foundation, is an important part of that story. The project brings together experienced and emerging artists, including works by Anuragk Gupta and young artists associated with the participating organisations. Rather than treating art as an isolated object, Confluence places the work within relationships — between artists, students, communities, institutions and audiences.

LE:SA carries that idea forward. As artists register, their practices become part of a living cultural record: their biographies, statements, works and future contributions can be discovered over time. Some artists arrive with established bodies of work; others are at an earlier stage. The purpose is not to make them look the same, but to give each practice room to develop.
